Reality TV Show Pitch Questions #4
I just recently purchased a copy of your ebook online. What Im trying to find out is how long does it take to get my work registered and also in what format should it be written?
How long is the process of registering your work? What i mean is how long does it take to hear back from the WGA? Which form from the copyright website should i print?

Registering with the WGA is very simple — just follow the steps at their website: www.wga.org
I also would recommend submitting a treatment for your show idea.
The registration process is very simple, you send in the forms along with payment and you get a WGA registration number for your script.
Reality TV falls into several categories, so you can choose treatment, TV show, etc. It really isn’t a big deal and while the WGA registration is great to have, you still have to be very careful about the release forms you may be asked to sign by a production company.
It is a great idea to register your idea, but keep in mind the production companies have their own release forms. I want sent one not so long ago and they basically tried to get the writer to sign over their ideas. Most people aren’t in the position to pay for litigation, so it really pays to be thorough with any agreement/release they want you to sign.
Some of them basically say you are giving them the right to take your idea, develop it without needing to offer you any type of financial reward.
Regards,
Matt
