I’ve had a productive time of late learning more about the inner workings of Hollywood and production companies.

I’ve also come to realize, I’m further along the path than I first realized, which leads me to this email and a new idea…

Development.

One thing I instantly notice when reading the treatments I’m sent is what’s missing. Not just in terms of audience and advertising, but in terms of the actual ideas. They are just not concepts.

Let me give you an example of a basic idea versus a concept.

Basic idea: Watch Donald Trump conduct his business in New York City.

Concept: 12 challengers undertake a 15 week live-in job interview to be crowned Donald Trump’s Apprentice and work on one of his Development projects for a year earning $250,000. Each week they undertake various tasks designed to test their abilities and show they deserve to be The Apprentice.

The basic idea makes me think of him at lunch, in a limo and wearing a hardhat, the second paints a much richer picture and more importantly, is Entertainment.

The logline has to encapsulate your concept.

This is the difference between having your idea looked at or ignored — and comes before we even touch on the target audience and the advertisers.

What I’m proposing to do is this: I will develop your ideas fully into concepts and pitch them to Production companies on your behalf. In short, I’ll add the value that is often missing.

We will enter into an exclusive agreement giving me a specified amount of time to develop and pitch your idea. If nothing happens, at the end of the specified time, you get your idea back — as it originally was or optionally with my development.

This idea has only formed in my mind the last few days, however I am already talking with my Attorney about the required agreements.
