Every day more and more people are taking it up for the first time. I was once a beginning golfer myself and I remember the frustrations of learning the swing and playing well. And that was with a Golf Pro Father.

There are a lot of books and other information products available for established golfers, but not a lot for adults who are brand new to the game. Amongst all the tour talk, long drives and 400cc drivers, it seems beginners are left out.

Golf is a great game providing a lifetime of enjoyment and when you finally achieve a certain level of proficiency, a whole new element of the game appears, ensuring there is always a challenge.

Many schools offer an introductory 4 hour class - usually for around $320 - on the basics of golf, but you are better off to work on those yourself, then pay for lessons when you are comfortable with the basic knowledge. You won’t be effective until you have mastered at least the basics, so by doing it at home, by yourself can remove much of the embarrassment that is often felt by beginners.

I’ve also seen beginners made to play rounds of golf way too early in their development. The result is a bad experience that can, in some cases, turn them off golf forever. A much better strategy is - you guessed it - get the basics down first.

Now, there are many opinions on the golf swing but we can agree that without doubt, the most effective, not to mention quickest way to improve is to study, then practice what you have studied.

You’ve heard it all before - there are no short cuts… Well, for golf it is especially true. Study and practice will get you there. Repetition of the skills and the swing will help develop your game, playing will help you develop the magical quality called ‘touch.’

Having the right knowledge is the key.

Just as there is a technique to hitting a ball in tennis, or throwing a football, golf has a correct motion which must be learned. The swing can be broken down into phases to assist with learning where the body should be for each phase of the swing. The sooner you can do this, the sooner you can start to enjoy playing the game of golf.

Here are some of the basics you need to know in order to get started.

The game: etiquette - You need to know about the game and the things you shouldn’t ever do on the golf course. It is a game with rules of conduct. This is listed first, because respecting the traditions of the game is vital.

The swing - The fundamentals of the movement and how to repeat it. Knowing the plane the club should swing on and getting familiar with where things should be at the various stages of the movement.

The grip - The point of contact between the hands and the golf club takes some getting used to - I am yet to meet a person who doesn’t think it feels strange at first.

The address position - How to line up with the ball for both hands and feet.

The back swing - The check points to ensure a correct back swing and proper setup for the Down swing.

The down swing - Knowing how it is initiated and where the club needs to be at impact.

Club and ball positions - Where you should play the ball in your stance for different clubs.

The short game - Handling shots around the green, including basic putting technique.

Difficult lies - The adjustments you need to make for a non-level lies and other tricky situations that exist on the golf course.

Rules of play - The most common encountered rules on the course.

Most people start out in golf with no knowledge whatsoever. They watch the PGA tour and expect to be able to play just as well. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. It takes knowledge and practise. Lot’s of it.

Having an understanding of all these things is the key to experiencing some early improvement. If you don’t understand the basics, then golf lessons won’t help you. If you do have some knowledge, then you can consciously understand the instructions you’ll be given and will well on the way to getting the basics of golf together so you can start enjoying this wonderful game.

I’ve had a productive time of late learning more about the inner workings of Hollywood and production companies.

I’ve also come to realize, I’m further along the path than I first realized, which leads me to this email and a new idea…

Development.

One thing I instantly notice when reading the treatments I’m sent is what’s missing. Not just in terms of audience and advertising, but in terms of the actual ideas. They are just not concepts.

Let me give you an example of a basic idea versus a concept.

Basic idea: Watch Donald Trump conduct his business in New York City.

Concept: 12 challengers undertake a 15 week live-in job interview to be crowned Donald Trump’s Apprentice and work on one of his Development projects for a year earning $250,000. Each week they undertake various tasks designed to test their abilities and show they deserve to be The Apprentice.

The basic idea makes me think of him at lunch, in a limo and wearing a hardhat, the second paints a much richer picture and more importantly, is Entertainment.

The logline has to encapsulate your concept.

This is the difference between having your idea looked at or ignored — and comes before we even touch on the target audience and the advertisers.

What I’m proposing to do is this: I will develop your ideas fully into concepts and pitch them to Production companies on your behalf. In short, I’ll add the value that is often missing.

We will enter into an exclusive agreement giving me a specified amount of time to develop and pitch your idea. If nothing happens, at the end of the specified time, you get your idea back — as it originally was or optionally with my development.

This idea has only formed in my mind the last few days, however I am already talking with my Attorney about the required agreements.

What I need to hear from you is your feedback. Is this something that would interest you? How would you see it panning out? What would you need to make this happen for you?

Please hit reply now and let me know.

Regards,

Question: Hi, I really want to do modeling when I go to Japan (Tokyo) as a part time job after school, I’ll go to Japan in April and the school will start in July.

I was wondering if you could help me finding a part time job.

—————

Answer: Many students in Tokyo also do acting/modeling work. There can be some problems with scheduling, but you’ll have a visa, so no problems there.

The way it works is you register with the agencies, then they call you for jobs. Occasionally, they ask me to help them find people, but mostly they do it all themselves.
—————

Question: Thank you very much for your reply, I’m very glad to hear from you.
I’ve been trying to find a way to go to Japan and study there for like 2-3 years now and I’ll finally go now. When I’ve been in Japan for a while I’m going to try to help other people who want to study in Japan because I don’t want them to feel the way I felt while searching for everything on my own.

How long does the models work?

—————

Answer: I think a lot of people were critical of me initally for giving out the acting information, but I just don’t see why others shouldn’t be able to get involved. It was hard to find, but well worth it in the end. Wanting to help others is a great idea.

The jobs themselves vary, but can go all day. The shortest jobs I ever did were voice over and the longest TV Saigen (re-enactment) dramas. I think it works out differently for everyone. I mostly did Commercials, print, etc, others do mostly TV and others do a combination of everything.

Question: I am interested in purchasing your book on working the Japanese entertainment industry. This message is just to make sure that your website is still active, and that I can still get the consultation.

Incidently, I work mostly in stunts and motion capture combat. Is there any part of your book that would relate to that field?

Answer: Yes, the ebook is up to date and I am on hand to answer any questions you may have.

The stunt work will be an advantage and I would certainly mention the motion capture. I did some blue screen work, but most of it is regular film. You might be doing a sporting job, or military, etc. I think you will get work as an actor, rather than just filling in — all that type of work goes directly to the actor in Tokyo.

—————
Question: I purchased your e-book a month ago. I particularly appreciated the comprehensive list of agencies. I was wondering if i could ask your advice.

My speciality is medieval western Martial arts. I have the people and equipment to show several different centuries of medieval combat, including the armour.

Before now, I had only took opportunities as they came. Now I intend to seek out jobs. Could you recommend an agency that might be interested in what I have to offer?

Answer: I would recommend you take in some pictures of you dressed up in the Medieval garb and perhaps make a short video of it.

As for the agencies, tell them all. Unless you have fluent Japanese and are well known, companies will be reluctant to hire you direct — they prefer the safety of using the agencies who will send someone along to make sure everything runs smoothly with the actors.

The agencies don’t all get the same jobs, so the more that know you and what you can do, the better off you’ll be.
